Write 4 A6 Layouts on One A4 Sheet | UUNA TEK 3.0

How to Write 4 A6 Layouts on One A4 Sheet with UUNA TEK 3.0 Pen Plotter

Want to write on four A6 layouts using just one A4 sheet? With Inkscape and the UUNA TEK 3.0 Pen Plotter, you can arrange four separate text layouts on a single A4 canvas and let the plotter write them automatically.

In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the complete process, from setting up your A4 document and arranging the text to converting it into Hershey SVG single-line paths and starting the writing task. Follow the steps below to create four A6-sized handwritten layouts on one sheet of paper.

Before You Start

Make sure that Inkscape and the corresponding extension plugins are installed on your computer. If they are not installed, follow the tutorial below to complete the extension setup.

How to Install the UUNA TEK 3.0 Pen Plotter Extension for Inkscape (Step-by-Step Guide)

Step 1: Set the Document Size to A4

  1. Open Inkscape and click File → Document Properties in the top menu bar. You can also use the shortcut Shift + Ctrl + D.
  2. In the Document Properties panel, set the paper size to A4 (width: 210 mm, height: 297 mm).

Step 2: Add Grid Guides for A6 Layouts

The standard A6 paper size is 105 mm wide × 148.5 mm high. One A4 sheet can accommodate four A6-sized layouts.

  1. In the Document Properties window, switch to the Grids tab and select Rectangular Grid.
  2. Set Spacing X to 105 and Spacing Y to 148.5.

Step 3: Check the Four-Section Layout

After configuring the grid, the A4 canvas will be divided into four separate A6-sized areas, numbered 1–4. Arrange your content within these four grid sections.

Step 4: Enter and Arrange the Text

  1. Select the Text Tool from the left toolbar and enter the text you want to write in each of the four A6 areas.
  2. Open the Text and Font panel to adjust the font size. There is no need to change the font style at this stage, as the text will later be converted into a single-line SVG font supported by the writing machine.
Enter and Arrange the Text

Step 5: Convert the Text to a Hershey SVG Single-Line Font

  1. Select all the text, then navigate to Extensions → iDraw utilities → Hershey Text in the top menu.
  2. In the pop-up window:
    • Font face: Select a built-in Hershey font from the dropdown menu. To use a custom font, select a local SVG single-line font file under Other SVG Font.
    • Live preview: Enable this option to preview the font conversion in real time.
    • Apply: Click this button to complete the text conversion.
